Best Business for Customer Service: Valentine & Turner Family Funeral Directors
Wayne Turner, Managing Director: “As a family we know how it feels to lose one of your own, so to win this customer service award for helping families on a daily basis who are suffering loss is an amazing tribute to our team. The support we have from everybody is just out of this world. Thank you.”

Best Café or Coffee Shop: Holwood Farm Shop
Sarah Clout, joint owner: “It’s a massive achievement. It was mainly Gary’s vision – we’re business partners and husband and wife. When we started, we were a really small coffee shop. In 2017 we extended the seating area and this year we put in a cooking kitchen with a chef providing hot breakfasts and lunch. It’s been a massive learning curve but it’s positive for our business and we’ve had a hugely positive response from our customers.

Gary Mercer, joint owner: “It’s lovely to win this award because it’s Bromley. We’re all about our local customers. The business literally lives or dies on a daily basis due to our customer base, so the local people of Bromley are important to us. It means a lot to us to be supported and acknowledged by the Bromley Awards.”

Best Business for Marketing & Social Media: Churchill Theatre
Rachel Johnson, Marketing Manager: “We’re absolutely delighted to win this award tonight. It means a huge amount to us. We have over 150,000 people visit the Churchill Theatre every year, and the numbers are growing. We’re just so proud to be at the beating heart of the community of Bromley.”

Best SME: Make Me Local
Nathan Kelsey, Managing Director: “We’re totally shocked and surprised to have won Best SME. We try to work with local people and provide career opportunities for them. To be recognised at these awards means that we, as a company, are going to be just that little bit stronger next year and can give more people the opportunity to work in a really cool industry.”

Best New Business AND Business of the Year: Hello Burger
Tony Adams, Managing Director: “I’m over the moon to have won both Best New Business and Business of the Year in Bromley. The team I work with deserve an awful lot of credit for this. While I control the business side of things, it’s the team who delivers day-in, day-out. They’re looking after our guests, building loyal custom and driving the business forward. We absolutely could not have won without all their commitment and hard work.”

Entrepreneur of the Year: Amie McGranaghan, J’amies Gymnastics Academy
Amie McGranaghan, J’amies Gymnastics Academy: “I want to thank my team because they keep me on the straight and narrow and keep the positive energy going. I look up a lot to the Shampan Group. Sufian [Miah – Shampan Group Director & Owner] is a big role model to me. I hope that similarly I can help other people progress with their businesses, as Sufian has helped me.”

Best Charity or Social Enterprise: Threshers Day Nursery
Joanna Whelan, Manager: “For us it’s amazing to win this award. We’re just a small children’s day nursery in St Mary Cray and we support children from deprived backgrounds and those with special needs. To us this is amazing, thank you.”

Employer of the Year: Pennington Choices
Dan Roebuck, Operations Manager South: “This is the first time we’ve entered these awards, so we’re delighted to win. We’ve been in Bromley for over ten years and employ more than 20 people, many of whom also live locally. We spend a lot of time engaging with and training our staff to make it a fun place to work and we’re pleased to have good retention as a result. It’s great for us and our employees to win this award.”

Best Business for Innovation & Growth: Bromley Football Club
Jeff Hutton, General Manager: “Over the last decade we’ve tried to improve and everything we do is for the local community. We understand that the football club is such a focal point and it’s imperative to try and engage the local community, whether young or old. I’m really proud of our team. We’re a very small group of people and they go above and beyond every single day of the week. We’re really proud of the award. Thank you.”

Best Bar/Restaurant: Shampan at the Spinning Wheel
Rubel Ahmed, Manager: “This award means the world to us. We feel extremely proud and honoured. We’re very passionate about what we do. We love hospitality, we love fine dining and cooking, and it feels like people are coming to our home, actually. This isn’t about the owners or the managers; this is about the staff and our customers. This award is a direct representation of that connection and I feel very privileged to be here on their behalf.”

Independent Retailer of the Year: J’amies Gymnastics Academy
James McGranaghan, CEO: “It’s absolutely amazing for us to win this award. We nearly franchised five years ago but it’s the best decision we ever made to stay completely independent. We’re going from strength to strength. Thank you very much.”
